Stefan Scholz is a senior investment banker with more than 27 years of experience in banking who is passionate about helping clients executing M&A, capital markets and other corporate finance transactions to achieve their goals.
Stefan started his investment banking career at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, where he advised small-cap and mid-cap IT services, software, telecom and other technology companies from Europe, North America and the Middle East on equity offerings such as IPOs. He subsequently expanded his coverage of industry sectors at JPMorgan in London and managed cross-border equity capital market transactions in Central and Eastern Europe, North America, and Africa.
As Head of Investment Banking, Stefan afterwards built up the leading local investment banking franchise in Central Asia. Closing complex M&A and capital market transactions in excess of USD 12 billion across industry sectors including oil & gas, metals & mining and financial services, Stefan’s team was voted “Best Corporate Finance and M&A Team” and “Best Local Investment Bank” in the CEE & CIS Banking Awards 2009 and 2010.
Stefan co-founded ScholzvonGleich in 2011 in response to the increasing need for an independent firm in Central Asia to provide professional financial advisory services and, following a buy-out of the firm in 2014, remains its sole owner and Managing Partner.
Besides his involvement in numerous complex M&A transactions, Stefan has executed IPOs, stock exchange listings, buy-back programs, Eurobonds and local bonds mainly in Europe, the US and Central Asia. Additionally, he has been advising a large number of clients worldwide on equity and debt capital market transactions on various stock exchanges and markets across Europe, in the U.S. and Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, and Kazakhstan.
Stefan was a long-standing member of the International Advisory Board to the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the regulation of activities of the Regional Financial Centre of Almaty (RFCA), and served as the appointed Representative for the National Export & Investment Agency on behalf of the Ministry for Investment and Development for all investments and investors from across the European Union, Switzerland and Norway into Kazakhstan.
Stefan studied Economics and Business Administration at the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart, Germany), as an ERASMUS scholar at the University of Leicester (UK), and holds a full-time MBA from the Henley Management College (UK).
