ODS Project, a Sediment Hosted Copper (V) Deposit in Southern Argentina

The Neuquén Basin is located on the eastern side of the Andes in Argentina. The sediment-hosted Cu deposits are located in Neuquén Province, at about 1000 kilometers southwest of Buenos Aires. Elevations are everywhere less than 1000 meters above sea level.

There are numerous occurrences of oxide copper impregnating sandstones, showing potential for a new copper mining district in a low mesa, desert terrain at the eastern of the Andes. The genesis of those deposits is intimately connected with the petroleum generation.

A number of economical deposits are identified. Located in the central part of the Neuquén Basin, hosted in the Huincul Formation of the Neuquén Group. The Neuquén Group represents a red bed sequence, but at as a consequence of mineralization, rocks are bleached. This deposits outstands because in addition of Cu, they contains higher values of V, Ag and minor of Co and U.
